Judging A Site By its Appearance
When one logged onto Factoidz (a long defunct rip off site) the appearance was Life Magzine. It appeared so professional and promised to pay so well, it took the vast majority of contributors months to appreciate it was a Ponzi.
Even when Blogosphere exploded with 'this happened to me' testimonials, people kept joining, kept disbelieving until the site was taken down.
Looking back one wonders how it is that such an obvious scam could have gone on so long, how so many warnings went unheeded.
The answer is the simple appearance. Because Factoidz appered professional it was taken as professional.

Looks Good Pays Bad
Wikinut is a similar kind of rip off site. Unlike Factoidz which would pay high to attract writers, then drop a contributor to member and confiscate their work and revenue, Wikinut begins and ends on the same note; that is very low payment for articles which require a great deal of work.
On the day Wikinut began, (over 3 years ago) until this morning the low levels have never changed. The Owner continues to reap thousands, pay pennies. The moderators continue to play favourites so that where in 2011 the 'Star Page' was crammed with brilliant prose today one finds excruciatingly poor quality items.
This is because the best writers have gone to Expertscolumn and the new Bubblews. Despite the fact these sites don't have the presentation that Wikinut does, they pay so much more.

The Site by its Cover
Bubblews is a new site which doesn't look all that professional. Yet, for slightly over 1000 hits it pays $12.00. That is more than ten times what Wikinut offers.
Yes, you read right.
Despite the fact that Wikinut demands so much work; (Pretending the Moderators are Fair) to get a Star Page one needs to write about 750 words, with a number of images, a number of words in Bold Face, and a number of links to other articles.
On Bubblews one can write an article of 250 words with no images, bolding, back links, and still get hits and coin. So where is the 'balance' the logical explanation?

No Work/Reap Money
It is not difficult to understand making money. Have a site, Ad Sense (or another) pay you to host ads. When it comes to content, why knock yourself out? The Internet teems with writer wannabes so give them a place to post their scribbling. Pay them a tiny percentage of what you earn and do nothing except cash your cheques.
You can fling up some automated 'accounting system' or 'Editor' or get a hand of contributors who, for a tinypercentage, will sit as moderators on their peer's work and 'pay them' a tiny percentage.
Hence, the owner gets $100 a month from hosting these ads plus 10c every time someone clicks on an Ad. Create a 'rate' that a user gets 1c for every 100 views which considering the traffic might work out to the user making a whole dollar at the end of the month (highly unlikely).
Give the mod 1c every time he works, so it's easy for an owner to take home at least $90 plus whatever he gets in clicks.
And Call yourself a 'Writing Site.'
