Writing Sites
This is just a glance at a few sites, there are thousands of online publishing sites. We call them 'writing sites' but in truth they have more to do with the ads which festoon the page than the content thereof.
This is because these sites make their money by ads.
They use your writing as wallpaper.
Some are are better than others, they do pay (a pittance), and do not interfere in your copyright. Some are worse than others, they steal your work and pay you nothing. This article is a skim of what is out there.
One of the Most Solid
Triond is a 'tried and true' site. It pays a few pennies per view and you can associate your Adsense account; hence you are paid twice.
Not much, but twice.
You can remove your work when you choose, you Do Not Lose your copyright.
I emphasise this because it is of key significance.
For example, you might write a little story that some producer wants to turn into a flick, you might compose a poem a musician wants to turn into a song. As long as you keep your copyright you will be paid.
If you sell your copyright, if you give it away, if you post on a site that steals your work, you will get nothing. You will get Nothing and have to sue and might, just might have clicked "I Agree" to lose your Copyright.

New Kid on The Block
This is a fairly new site. It is rather attractive but pays very little. Moderation is human done, so that a mammal reads your pages. Unfortunately, the level of writing is extremely low; even the so-called "Star Pages" are often of very low quality. Personal attacks in articles and comments are accepted, so if you don't have a thick skin, this is not a site for you.
You are paid in English pounds unlike the other sites which use American currency. It is straight pay from the site, Adsense is not connected. So you are paid only once, but not on a regular basis but retain your copyright.

An Older Venue
Xomba is unmoderated. You create an article and it is posted. Your only pay is via Adsense.
If you aren't writing adcopy where what you write inspires particular ads and the public clicks on those ads you won't make very much coin. In fact, most people don't make $1.00 a month.

Warning! Haz Mat!
This is a MUST AVOID. You probably heard of this site because someone mentioned it on a forum as paying more than twice what other sites pay. This is because Factoidz has a gang of Shills who are paid for bringing in 'new blood'.
When you first join you are impressed by the quality of the writing. You begin as 'Member' with no ability to publish. Once your first piece is accepted you are advanced to Writer where your work is moderated. Over time you are promoted to Staff Writer where you can publish immediately.
The first month(s) you do make double or triple what you would make on Triond. You might be inspired to run around inviting others to join, bragging about how much you made.
This doesn't last.
Shortly, for no cogent reason, you will be dropped to Writer then Member.
As soon as you are made Member you can not touch your work. You will not be paid for it. Your copyright will be taken and your work will make money for the site and you will get nothing.
If you do your own investigation as to how many articles are written by 'Members' it is clear that this work was done when they were Writers/Staff writers.
Do Not join Factoidz.

Read the Terms of Service!
Take the time to read the terms of service before you click on 'I Agree'. If you are unsure whether or not you lose your copyright, try to delete an item already published.
If you can't delete it then the site has captured it.
Do not join any writing site which takes your copyright unless you are being paid upfront for your work. For Example, if you are offered $15.00 for that item, and you accept it, you have sold your work.
Due the various complaints made against the site Factoidz has changed its name to Knoji
The Same policies apply.
