Networking Your Writing - Cyber Catch-22
You write an article. You publish it. Now you need people to read it. To get readers you have to market your work. Of course, if you market your work you are attacked as a 'self-spammer' and your work, no matter how good, might be removed from the Network.
If you can't Network your writing what are you supposed to Network?
Other people's writing in a "I promote you/you promote me?"
Welcome to Catch-22.
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Online Publishing; less profitable and more time consuming than collecting bottles along the road side.

Okay What Do I Do?
As said before , join a number of different writing sites using different nicknames. Join Networking sites using other nicknames.
WriterOne writes for Triond, WriterTwo for Hubpages, on and on. NetworkerOne joins Stumbleupon, NetworkerTwo joins Digg, on and on.
If you don't.....
Bounce
Your work is removed from the site and you're labeled a 'Spammer'. People who run Networking sites actually believe users of Cyberspace have absolutely nothing at all to do save promote other people's work.
That the average Netizen is going to find an item, hidden on some publishing site somewhere, and for no apparent reason go through the whole Stumble, Digg, Reddit....

Above is a partial list of Networking Sites. As you can see there are quite a few. Some are better than others. Some are wastes of keystrokes. Join all of them and find out which ones work for you.
Use Compete.com to compare the various sites. This one may have 39,000 users, that one might have 3.2 Million.
However:
depending on what you write about you could get 20k from the first site, 30 from the second. Don't be fooled by statistics, go for interests and the people who make up that site.

Stumble!
This is one of the most famous. People install the button on their browser and can spend all day Stumbling from site to site. There was a time Stumbleupon made making friends easier so one could have a portion one would immediately notify every time you posted an article.
That was then.
Now you'll find your work only has one Stumble, you. This is because there are millions of sites out there and you, doubtless, have been labeled a Spammer.

Digg It!
Digg was another very popular site. One could toss up something and the hits would come. Now, like Stumble, you might have one hit. Hence unless you have a portion of friends who will view your work, it's just another click.
Don't expect much traffic from Digg.

Reddit?
This site is on par with a toxic waste dump which begats and harbours a large number of Trolls. Reddit Trolls vote down links. It doesn't matter what is posted, if they don't like your nick, they vote down the post.. There are a number of subreddits, hunt to find one where the majority are normal or just toss it into the catchbasket of reddit.com.
If you have an item with 0 votes, delete it and post in a different subreddit. If you're very unlucky you'll pick up a few Stalkers. These will search for your nick to vote down whatever it is you have shared.

The Best For Last....
Redgage and Shetoldme invite you to Network your items, and pay you a smalls. You read right; they will Pay YOU.
You join them, you post your work, you can even use your real name. Apparently someone out there realises that online writers need to Network they stuff to get paid.
These two sites are, so far, the only ones I know that understand the Marketplace.

If You Don't Network?
If you do a traffic study, you will find that most of your hits come from Google. Your title, your tags, need to catch the eye of the search engine. Whether .com, .uk, .ca, the arrival at your site is via an entry in a Google search box.
This means you have to scrap those clever titles and go for the most bland. You can always add a catchy title to your work.
Save your item as "Gifts for the Bride" and your first sentence and/or subtitle:
"Thirty years from now she will remember..."
No one will enter "Thirty years from now..." in a search box, but people will do a search for gifts for bride.
Double titling is one of those Cyber Tricks you learn, along with creating different Nicks, recycling your work and avoiding writing sites which steal your copyright.
